Spring Training - March 2006

We recently made our second trip out to Scottsdale, AZ for Spring Training and to visit Matt Thomson. Although it rained one day we still made it to two A's games - one in Surprise, AZ and one at their homefield in Scottsdale:

To recap:

- Chavez hit a bomb on Sunday and the crowd gave him an encouraging standing ovation.

- Milton Bradley didn't look crazy.

- Kendall finally hit a homerun (it was foul).

- I am extremely jealous of professional baseball players.

We also went out every night and met up with another crew of Gauchos (Thomson, Basil, Spasov, and Moose). They stayed at Thomson's parents place and we had a sweet hotel that had a shuttle service each night into Oldtown Scottsdale. Not only did they give us a ride and got us into restaurants with no reservations, they even dropped us off directly in front of every bar and club line that we entered. Did I mention the shuttle was a brand new Bentley driven by a twenty-one year old named Tommy?

I realize now that I've waited too long to blog about this and recall any specific stories. I mostly remember drinking a lot of vodka and beer and eating too many meat products. We went out to the J Hotel on Friday night and Donovan McNabb sat at the table next to us. A few of the guys were getting picked on by some cougars - one cougar made fun of me by telling me that I looked like the brother from Everybody Loves Raymond - but the rest of us sat around and tried not to look as if we were watching everything that he did. He has a ridiculouosly long face and he was wearing workout gear.

We ended up taking an Escalade to another club before calling it a night and some random UA girls hopped in the car with us. After a brief argument over our next destination, one of the girls called Thomson "striped shirt guy". Good times.

Saturday night we went out to Six and got a table and full bottle service. We invited guests through the velvet ropes for free drinks and acted like VIPs. Spasov almost convinced one girl that he was an astronaut - a personal highlight for me - and we got our fill of Vitamin V.

Spring Training = Good Times
